The a7R V uses powerful BIONZ XR processors and advanced machine-learning-based focusing algorithms to not only keep your eyes in focus, but also automatically recognize a wide range of objects: people, animals, birds, insects, cars, trains and airplanes. When choosing people, birds, or animals from the menu, you can also specify what exactly you want to focus on: the whole body, the head, or just the eyes. As before, you can adjust the sensitivity to interference and the speed of focus shifting. Sony says that the efficiency of focusing on the eyes has increased by 60%.
Image stabilisation has improved from 5.5 stops to as much as 8 stops, a parameter that Sony has managed to catch up with the Canon EOS R5. Only certain Sony lenses with their own IS are required for this efficiency, but in general, we can talk about a significant improvement, even if you use unstabilized lenses.
Video quality has been significantly improved: in 4K, the camera now supports a color depth of 10 bits with 4:2:2 subsampling, which should significantly improve the dynamic range compared to the 8-bit 4:2:0 of the previous generation model. Shooting speed has also increased: from 30 to 60 fps. Shooting in 8K (24 or 25 fps) has been added. The camera can record RAW video in Apple ProRes RAW, but for this you need an external monitor recorder Atomos Ninja V or Ninja V+, the resolution in ProRes RAW is 3848 x 2168, the frame rate is from 24 to 60 fps.
As for the body, the main change was the new mechanism for moving the screen: now it can be simply tilted up / down (which is convenient when taking photos), and tilted to the side with a 180° rotation (which is convenient for video shooting or selfies). The screen has also slightly increased in size: from 3 to 3.2 inches diagonally, but there has been no increase in resolution. It was not bad for this size. But the viewfinder resolution has almost doubled: from 5.7 to 9.4 million dots. As for the interfaces, full-size HDMI is now used, and the USB-C port has been updated to the USB 3.2 Gen 2 specification, which significantly speeds up file transfers.
